Through conceptual art I process radical life events, mine and from others, that reveal underlying emotions around themes such as belonging and identity.
As a daughter of migrants these themes affect me on a personal level. But it is the complexity of these issues on a universal level that interests me and that I find important to explore.
I do so by using various textile techniques like traditional weaving, patchwork and quilting.
I am attracted to textile craft and visual art because of the social impact they can have on individuals and communities. It speaks to the core of our being and to us expressing ourselves beyond words. Visceral and instinctive over intellectual
And I love that the cultural heritage of textiles is a living tradition inherited from our ancestors that is still being passed on. It is about connecting to others, through space and time.
There is a greater purpose to threads and I am here to explore it.
